## Discount

#### Discount

1. Articles are marked at a price which gives a profit of 25%. After allowing a certain
 discount the profit reduces to 12 1 %. The discount percent is 2
1. 11.1%
2. 10%
3.  12 1 % 2
4. 12%

1. Let the C.P. of each article be Rs. 100.
∴  Marked price = Rs. 125
On giving discount,
S.P. = Rs. 112.5
∴  Discount
= 125 – 112.5 = Rs. 12.5

 i.e., 12 1 % 2

##### Correct Option: C

Let the C.P. of each article be Rs. 100.
∴  Marked price = Rs. 125
On giving discount,
S.P. = Rs. 112.5
∴  Discount
= 125 – 112.5 = Rs. 12.5

 i.e., 12 1 % 2

1. A seller gains 20% profit even after allowing 10% discount. If the amount of profit on a TV set is Rs. 750, then the marked price of the TV set is
1. Rs. 5200
2. Rs. 5000
3. Rs. 4800
4. Rs. 5500

1.  S.P. of TV set = Rs. 120 × 750 20

= Rs. 4500
If the marked price be Rs. x, then
 x × 90 = 4500 100

 ⇒  x = 4500 × 100 = Rs. 5000 90

##### Correct Option: B

 S.P. of TV set = Rs. 120 × 750 20

= Rs. 4500
If the marked price be Rs. x, then
 x × 90 = 4500 100

 ⇒  x = 4500 × 100 = Rs. 5000 90

1. A shopkeeper, in order to clear his old stock of T.V. sets, offers 12% discount on the T.V. sets. If the marked price of a T.V. set is Rs. 6500, the selling price of the T.V. set is:
1. Rs. 5700
2. Rs. 5720
3. Rs. 5400
4. Rs. 6000

1. Rate of discount = 12%
∴  S.P. of TV set
= 6500 × (100 – 12)%

 = 6500 × 88 = Rs.5720 100

Second method :
Here, D = 12%,
M.P. = Rs. 6500, S.P. = ?
 M.P. = S.P. × 100 100 − D

 6500 = S.P. × 100 100 − 12

 S.P. = 6500 × 88 100

S.P. = Rs. 5720

##### Correct Option: B

Rate of discount = 12%
∴  S.P. of TV set
= 6500 × (100 – 12)%

 = 6500 × 88 = Rs.5720 100

Second method :
Here, D = 12%,
M.P. = Rs. 6500, S.P. = ?
 M.P. = S.P. × 100 100 − D

 6500 = S.P. × 100 100 − 12

 S.P. = 6500 × 88 100

S.P. = Rs. 5720

1. An item was sold for Rs. 3600 at 25% discount. Its marked price was
1. Rs. 2880
2. Rs. 2700
3. Rs. 4800
4. Rs. 4500

1. C.P. of article = Rs. x (let).
According to the question,

 x × 75 = 3600 100

 ⇒  x = 3600 × 100 = Rs. 4800 75

Second method :
Here,S.P. = Rs. 3600
D = 25%
M.P. = ?
 M.P. = S.P. × 100 100 − D

 M.P. = 3600 × 100 100 − 25

 M.P. = 360000 75

= M.P. = Rs. 4800

##### Correct Option: C

C.P. of article = Rs. x (let).
According to the question,

 x × 75 = 3600 100

 ⇒  x = 3600 × 100 = Rs. 4800 75

Second method :
Here,S.P. = Rs. 3600
D = 25%
M.P. = ?
 M.P. = S.P. × 100 100 − D

 M.P. = 3600 × 100 100 − 25

 M.P. = 360000 75

= M.P. = Rs. 4800

1. The marked price of a watch was Rs. 720. A man bought the same for Rs. 550.80 after getting two successive discounts, the first being 10%. The second discount rate is
1. 18%
2. 12%
3. 14%
4. 15%

1. Marked price = Rs. 720
Discount = 10%
∴  After a discount of 10%,

 S.P. = Rs. 720 × 90 100

= Rs. 648
Final S.P. = Rs. 550.80
∴  Discount = Rs. (648 – 550.80) = Rs. 97.2
If the second discount be x%, then
 648 × x = 97.2 100

 ⇒  x = 97.2 × 100 = 15% 648

Second method :
S.P. = Rs. 550.80, M.P. = Rs. 720
D1 = 10%, D2 = ?
 S.P. = M.P. 100 − D1  100 − D2 100 100

 550.80 = 720 100 − 10  100 − D2 100 100

 550.80 × 100 × 100 = 100 − D2 720 × 90

85 = 100 − D2
D2 = 100 − 85
D2 = 15%

##### Correct Option: D

Marked price = Rs. 720
Discount = 10%
∴  After a discount of 10%,

 S.P. = Rs. 720 × 90 100

= Rs. 648
Final S.P. = Rs. 550.80
∴  Discount = Rs. (648 – 550.80) = Rs. 97.2
If the second discount be x%, then
 648 × x = 97.2 100

 ⇒  x = 97.2 × 100 = 15% 648

Second method :
S.P. = Rs. 550.80, M.P. = Rs. 720
D1 = 10%, D2 = ?
 S.P. = M.P. 100 − D1  100 − D2 100 100

 550.80 = 720 100 − 10  100 − D2 100 100

 550.80 × 100 × 100 = 100 − D2 720 × 90

85 = 100 − D2
D2 = 100 − 85
D2 = 15%
