  1. If x sin3θ + y cos3θ = sinθ cosθ and x sinθ – y cosθ = 0, then the value of (x2 + y2) equals
    1. 1
    2. 1
      2

    3. 3
      2

    4. 2
Correct Option: A

∵ x sinθ – y cosθ = 0
⇒ x sinθ = y cosθ ..... (i)
∴ x sin3 θ + y cos3 θ = sinθ . cosθ
⇒ y cosθ . sin2 θ + y cos3 θ = sinθ. cosθ
⇒ y cosθ (sin2 θ + cos2 θ) = sinθ . cosθ
⇒ y cosθ = sinθ . cosθ
⇒ y = sinθ
From equation (i),
x sinθ = sinθ . cosθ
⇒ x = cosθ
∴ x2 + y2 = cos2θ + sin2θ = 1
