  1. In a triangle ABC, ∠BAC = 90° and AD is perpendicular to BC. If AD = 6 cm and BD = 4 cm, then the length of BC is
    1. 8 cm
    2. 10 cm
    3. 9 cm
    4. 13 cm
Correct Option: D

On the basis of question we draw a figure of triangle ABC ,

∠BAC = 90°
AB = √AD² + BD²
AB = √6² + 4²
AB = √36 + 16 = √52 cm
∆ABD and ∆ABC are similar.

AB
=
BD
BCAB

⇒ AB² = BC × BD
⇒ 52 = BC × 4
⇒ BC = 52 ÷ 4 = 13 cm
