  1. If   a2 + b2 + 2b + 4a + 5 = 0, then the value of
    a − b
      is
    a + b
    1. 3
    2. –3
    3. 1
      3
    4. 1
      3
Correct Option: C

a2 + b2 + 2b + 4a + 5 = 0
⇒  a2 + 4a + b2 + 2b + 5 = 0
⇒  a2 + 4a + 4 + b2 + 2b + 1 = 0
⇒  (a + 2)2 + (b + 1)2 = 0
It is possible only when
a + 2 = 0 ⇒ a = –2
and, b + 1 = 0 ⇒ b = – 1

∴
a − b
=
−2 + 1
a + b−2 − 1

=
− 1
=
1
−33
