The lines 2x + y = 5 and x + 2y = 4 intersect at the point :

2x + y = 5 ...(i)
x + 2y = 4 ...(ii)
By equation (i) × 2 – equation (ii),
we have

⇒ x = 2
From equation (i),
2 × 2 + y = 5
⇒ y = 5 – 4 = 1
∴ Point of intersection = (2, 1)
