A merchant marked cloth at Rs. 50 per metre . He offers two successive discounts of 15% and 20%. The net price per metre of cloth is :

As we know that ,

Single equivalent discount for a% and b% =		a + b -	a × b		%
			100

Here , a = 20% , b = 15%

Single equivalent discount =		20 + 15 -	20 × 15		%
			100

= (35 - 3)% = 32%
∴ Net rate of cloth = (100 – 32)% of Rs. 50

Net rate of cloth = Rs.		50 × 68		per metre
		100

∴ Net rate of cloth = Rs. 34 per metre
