  1. A sum of money at some rate of simple interest amounts to ₹2,900 in 8 years and to ₹3,000 in 10 years. The rate of interest per annum is
    1. 4%
    2. 21%
      2
    3. 3%
    4. 2%
Correct Option: D

As per the given in question ,
Principal + interest for 8 years = ₹ 2900... (i)
Principal + interest for 10 years = ₹ 3000 ... (ii)
Subtracting equation (i) from (ii)
Interest for 2 years = ₹ 100

∴ Interest for 8 years =
100
× 8 = ₹ 400
2

From equation (i),
Principal = ₹ (2900 – 400) = ₹ 2500
∴ Rate =
S.I × 100
Principal × Time

=
400 × 100
= 2%
2500 × 8

Second method to solve this question :
Here , A2 = ₹ 3000 , T1 = 8 years , A1 = ₹ 2900 , T2 = 10 years
R =
A1 - A2
× 100
A2T1 - A1T2

R =
2900 - 3000
× 100
3000 × 8 - 2900 × 10

R =
- 100
× 100
24000 - 29000

R =
- 100
× 100 = 2%
- 5000
