The total cost of 8 buckets and 5 mugs is $ 92 and the total cost of 5 buckets and 8 mugs is $ 77. Find the cost of 2 mugs and 3 buckets.

Let C.P. of 1 bucket = p
And C.P. of 1 mug = q
According to question ,
∴ 8p + 5q = 92 .....(i)
and 5p + 8q = 77 .....(ii)
By using equation (i) × 5 – equation (ii) × 8,
40p + 25q – 40p – 64q = 460 – 616
⇒ –39q = – 156
⇒ q = 4
From equation (i),
8p + 20 = 92
⇒ 8p = 92 – 20 = 72
⇒ p = 9
∴ C.P. of 2 mugs and 3 buckets = 2 × 4 + 3 × 9
C.P. of 2 mugs and 3 buckets = 8 + 27 = $ 35
