  1. If a shopkeeper marks the price of goods 50% more than their cost price and allows a discount of 40%, what is his gain or loss percent ?
    1. Gain of 10%
    2. Loss of 10%
    3. Gain of 20%
    4. Loss of 20%
Correct Option: B

Let C.P. of article = ₹ 100
Marked price = ₹ 150

S.P. =
150 × 60
= ₹ 90
100

Loss = 100 – 90 = ₹ 10 i.e. 10%
2nd method to solve this question.
Here, r = 50%, r1 = 40%
His loss % =
r ×(100 − r1)
− r1
100

Loss % =
50 × (100 − 40)
− 40
100

Loss % =
50 × 60
− 40
100

Loss % = –10% (–ve sign shows loss)
Required Loss % = 10% loss
