If 1 is added to the denominator of a fraction it becomes 1/2. If 1 is added to the numerator it becomes 1. The product of numerator and denominator of the fraction is

Let the numerator = p and denominator = q

∴ Fraction =	p	and =	p	=	1
	q		q + 1		2

⇒ 2p = q + 1 ⇒ p =	q + 1
	2

p + 1	= 1 ⇒ p + 1 = q
q

⇒	q + 1	+ 1 = q
	2

⇒	q + 1 + 2	= q
	2

⇒ q + 3 = 2q ⇒q = 3
p + 1 = 3 ⇒ p = 2
∴ pq = 2 × 3 = 6
