Direction: In each question below is given a statement followed by two assumptions numbered I and II. An assumption is something supposed or taken for granted. You have to consider the statement and the following assumptions and decide which of the assumption(s) is/are implicit in the statement.

  1. Statement
The railway authorities have decided to increase the freight charges by 10% in view of the possibility of incurring losses in the current financial year.
    Assumptions
    I. The volume of freight during the remaining period may remain same.
II. The amount so obtained may set off a part or total of the estimated deficit.
    1. if only Assumption I is implicit
    2. if only Assumption II is implicit
    3. If either Assumption I or II is implicit
    4. if neither Assumption I nor II is implicit
Correct Option: B

Nothing can be said about the volume of freight during the remaining period. So, Assumption I is not implicit in the statement. Secondly, it is given in the statement that fare has been increased in view of the possibility of incurring losses i.e., to meet the probable deficit. Hence, Assumption II is implicit in the statement.
