The supply at three sources is 50, 40 and 60 units respectively while the demand at the four destinations is 20, 30,10 and 50 units. In solving this transportation problem.
-
- a dummy source of capacity 40 units is needed
- a dummy destination of capacity 40 units is needed
- no solution exists as the problem is infeasible
- none solution exists as the problem is degenerate

June 21, 2018Step 1 - Form a source and destination matrix table
Step 2- Add all the values in horizontal (destination values) i.e, 20+30+10+50=110
Step 3- Add all the values in vertical (source values) i.e, 50+40+60=150
Step 4- check for balanced condition i.e, both summation values should be equal, here destination is lack of 40 units, therefore add one more dummy destination and allot 40 units to balance it.
Now the problem is in balanced condition so the answer is
B) dummy destination of capacity 40 units is added
