  1. The sum of the ages of father and a son presently is 70 years. After 10 years, the son’s age is exactly half that of the father. What are their ages now?
    1. 45 years, 25 years
    2. 50 years, 20 years
    3. 47 years, 23 years
    4. 50 years, 25 years
Correct Option: B

Suppose the age of son = P years
∴ Age of the father = 70 – P
According to question ,
After 10 years , 2 ( age of son + 10 years ) = ( Age of the father + 10 years )
After 10 years , 2 (P + 10) = 70 – P + 10
⇒ 2P + 20 = 80 – P
⇒ 2P + P = 80 – 20
⇒ 3P = 60

∴ P =
60
= 20 years
3

The age of son = 20 years
Age of Father = 70 - P = 70 - 20 = 50 years
