Introduction to Data Interpretation

Direction: A table showing the percentage of the total population of a State by age groups for the year 1991 is given below. Answer the questions given below it.

  1. If there are 10 millions people in the age group 56 years and above, what is the difference between the number of people in the age group 16 – 25 and 46 – 55?
    1. 6.8 millions
    2. 5.6 millions
    3. 28.4 millions
    4. 34.7 millions
Correct Option: B

On the basis of given table in question ,
Percent of population in the age group 56 years and above = 5.12 + 1.13 = 6.25
Now, 6.25% of population = 10 millions

∴ Total Population =
10 × 100
millions = 160 millions
6.25

Difference in per cent of people in the age groups (16 – 25) and (46 – 55) = 17.75 – 14.25 = 3.5%
∴ The required difference = 3.5% of 160 millions
The required difference =
3.5 × 160
= 5.6 millions
100
