  1. A mother is 5 times older than her daughter. After 5 years, she would be 3 times older than her daughter. Find the mother’s present age.
    1. 20 years
    2. 22 years
    3. 25 years
    4. 29 years
Correct Option: C

Suppose the present age of daughter = P years
Therefore, the present age of mother = 5P years
According to question,
After 5 years, ( the present age of mother + 5 years ) = 3 × ( the present age of daughter + 5 years )
5P + 5 = 3 (P + 5)
⇒ 5P + 5 = 3P + 15
⇒ 5P – 3P = 15 – 5
⇒ 2P = 10

∴ P =
10
= 5
2

Therefore , Present age of mother = 5P = 5 × 5 = 25 years
