Suppose the present age of the son is P years.
Therefore, the present age of father will be 3P years.
According to question , Eight years ago, 5 × ( the present age of the son - 8 years ) = ( the present age of father - 8 years )
5(P – 8) = 3P – 8
⇒ 5P – 40 = 3P – 8
⇒ 5P – 3P = 40 – 8
⇒ 2P = 32

∴ P =
32
= 16 years
