Czech Petra Kvitová won the championship for the first time. It was her first Grand Slam final and title of her career. She defeated 2004 champion Maria Sharapova 6–3, 6–4. Kvitová became the first lefthanded player to win Wimbledon since Martina Navratilova in 1990.
Note : Serena Williams was the defending champion and successfully defended her title, defeating Angelique Kerber in 2016 Wimbledon.
