Data Sufficiency

Direction: Each of the questions below consists of a question and two statements numbered I and II given below it. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements are sufficient to answer the question. Read both the statements and Read both the statements and give answer

  1. What selling price should be marked on the article?

    According to question ,
From statement I , → The fixed value of CP is not given, so SP of the article cannot be determined.
From statement II , → Let, K be SP of an article

    Correct Option: B

    According to question ,
From statement I , → The fixed value of CP is not given, so SP of the article cannot be determined.
From statement II , → Let, K be SP of an article

    K x 100 - 10= 200 x ( 100 + 15 )
    100100

    K x 90= 200 x 115
    100100

    ∴ K= 200 x 115= $ 255.55
    90

Therefore , the data in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone are not sufficient to answer the question .

  1. What is the value of m − n ÷ 37?
    I. m is the largest possible six-digit number and n is the smallest possible six-digit number.
II. The difference between m and n is known.

As per the given all details in above question , we have
    From statement I ,As we know that Largest possible six digit number ( m ) = 999999, Smallest possible six digit number ( n ) = 1000000
    ∴ m − n ÷ 37 = 999999 − 1000000 ÷ 37
    = 999999 − 2702.70 = 997296.30

    Correct Option: A

As per the given all details in above question , we have
    From statement I ,As we know that Largest possible six digit number ( m ) = 999999, Smallest possible six digit number ( n ) = 1000000
    ∴ m − n ÷ 37 = 999999 − 1000000 ÷ 37
    = 999999 − 2702.70 = 997296.30
From statement II , m − n = known, but neither the value of ‘m’ is known nor the value of ‘n’ is known. So, we cannot find the value of m − n + 37 by this statement.

  1. What is the average monthly income per family member?
    I. Each male earns $ 1250 a month and each female earns $1050 a month.
II. Ratio of males to females in the family is 2 : 1.

  1. View Hint View Answer Discuss in Forum

On the basis of above given details in question , we can say
    I → M = $ 1250 and F = $ 1050
    II → M : F = 2 : 1
Let male and female are 2k and k respectively .
    On combining both the statements,

    Correct Option: E

On the basis of above given details in question , we can say that
    I → M = $ 1250 and F = $ 1050
    II → M : F = 2 : 1
Let male and female are 2k and k respectively .
    On combining both the statements,

    Average = 2K x 1250 + K x 1050= 2500 + 1050 = 1183.33

  1. How many boys are there in the class?
    I. The class has total 45 children and ratio of boys to girls is 4 : 5.
II. The ratio of girls to boys is 4 : 5 and boys are nine more than the girls.

  1. View Hint View Answer Discuss in Forum

As per the given above question ,

    From statement I , Number of boys in the class = 4 x 45 = 20.
    9

    Ratio of boys to girls = 4 : 5.

    Correct Option: C

As per the given above question ,

    From statement I , Number of boys in the class = 4 x 45 = 20.
    9

    Ratio of boys to girls = 4 : 5.
    From statement II , B= 5 and B - G = 9
    G4

Let numbers of boys and girls are 5k and 4k .
    On Solving, the above two statements , we get 5k - 4k = 9 ⇒ k = 9
    Number of boys in the class B = 5 x 9 = 45.

  1. What will be the compound interest after 3 years?
    I. Rate of interest is 5 percent.
II. The difference between the total simple interest and the total compound interest after two years is $ 20.

  1. View Hint View Answer Discuss in Forum

As per the given all details in above question ,
    From statement I , R = 5%
From statement II , (CI − SI) for two years = $ 20
Combining I and II and using

    Sum = Diff x 100 x 100= 20 x 100 x 100 = $ 8000
    Rate x Rate25

    Correct Option: E

As per the given all details in above question ,
    From statement I , R = 5%
From statement II , (CI − SI) for two years = $ 20
Combining I and II and using

    Sum = Diff x 100 x 100= 20 x 100 x 100 = $ 8000
    Rate x Rate25

    So , CI = 8000 1 + 5 3 - 8000 = $ 1261
    100

Hence , option E is correct answer .
