Direction: A standpipe system in a 39 m tall building has a rooftop reservoir for fire fighting containing 1/2 hour water supply.

  1. Assuming that each f1oor has one hose, the delivery rate (in litre per second) of the fire hose at greatest pressure is
    1. 75
    2. 78
    3. 81
    4. 84
Correct Option: A

A Standpipe system is a fire safety system which is designed to provide rapid access to water in the event that a fire breaks out. Standpipes are installed as standal one systems which act like building-specific fire hydrants, providing fire protection which will be readily available to fire fighters.
The design of the standpipe system is governed by building height, area per floor occupancy classification, egress system design, required flow rate and resi dual pressure, and the distance of the hose connection from the source(s) of the water supply. The maximum pressure at any point in the system shall not exceed 350 psi. The design pressure is based on a residual pressure of 100 psi.
