India was the host nation for the 1982 Asian Games held at Delhi, India from November 19 to December 4, 1982. India was ranked 5th with 13 gold medals, 19 silver medals and 25 bronze medals with a total of 57 over-all medals. In 2010, India created history by recording their best-ever performance in Guangzhou Asian Games with 64 medals, including 14 gold, with star boxer Vijender Singh providing the icing on the cake by bringing the last yellow metal on the penultimate day of the games. Before this performance, India’s best medal haul till date was recorded in the 1982 Games in Delhi when they had won 13 gold, 19 Silver and 25 Bronze for an overall tally of 57. India had finished 10 in the Asiad Games in Doha with a tally of 10-17-26.
Note : The 2010 Asian Games, also known as the XVI Asiad, was celebrated in Guangzhou, China in November 2010.Here India won maximum 65 medals. India competed at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, in September -October 2014. After 16 years India won the Gold medal in Asian Games men’s hockey tournament, and consequently earned a direct berth to the 2016 Summer Olympics hockey tournament. Here India won total of 57 medals. The 2018 Asian Games officially known as the XVIII Asiad, It is to be hosted by Indonesia and is scheduled to take place from August 18 – September 2, 2018. This will be the second time that Jakarta has hosted the Asian Games.
