Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya conducts graduate, post graduate, vocational and diploma courses on Sanskrit literature with a mission to promote the culture of ancient India. Jurisdiction of the university extends all over India and it has more than 1,000 affiliated and recognised colleges. It was founded in 1958 by the then Chief Minister Dr. Sampurnanand and Education Minister Pt Kamalapati Tripathi, with the name of Varanaseya Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya. It was renamed as Sampurnanand Sanskrit University under the UP State University Act, 1973.
