Which of the following is not an economic activity?
-
- A labourer working in a factory.
- A CRPF jawan guarding country’s borders.
- A teacher teaching his own son.
- A farmer tilling his own land.
- A labourer working in a factory.
Correct Option: C
An activity which is done with the aim of monetary return is called an economic activity, while an activity which is not done with the aim of monetary return is called a non-economic activity. The most quoted example to understand this is that of a teacher. When a teacher teaches students in a school, he is doing economic activity. When the same teacher teaches his son, he is doing non- economic activity.

a. Housewives doing daily chores
b. A person pursuing his hobbies like painting, dancing, gardening, solely for personal happiness and not making any monetary gains in the process.
In my view, it is not entirely correct to say that activities of a housewife is a non-economic activity, as if it were not for her doing those activities, the household would had to spend money to get those activities done by some helpers. Hence that certainly contributes to saving and hence activities have economic implications!!
