BI-MA-R-U states refer to Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. The term 'BIMARU' was coined in the 1980s to refer to the poor economic conditions of these states.

Population density of the following states(based on Census 2011):

Bihar: 1,106 persons per sq km
Madhya Pradesh: 308 persons per sq km
Rajasthan: 200 persons per sq km
Uttar Pradesh: 829 persons per sq km

According to Census 2011, among Indian states, the highest population density was that of Bihar.
