The full form of DVT is deep Vein Thrombosis. DVT is a serious condition, It occurs due to blood clot forms in a veins of your body. usually in lower legs or thighs, but they can also develop in other parts of the body. Blood clot develops due to slow blood flow or blood is not flowing in veins. It is also called as post-thrombotic syndrome, postphlebitic syndrome, and thromboembolism.
Symptoms
Cramping pain in leg, thigh or other part of the body.
Redness over the affected area of skin.
Swelling in foot and legs.
Affected area skin feels warmer.
Cause
Blood vessels damaged or block due to an injury.
Blood vessels can be damaged during surgery, due to which blood clot formation occurs.
Prolonged Bed rest after surgery may also increase the risk for developing a blood clot.
Sitting for a long time can collect blood in legs.
Family history of deep Vein Thrombosis.
DVT Diagnosis
One the basis of symptoms doctor recommend the following tests to diagnose DVT:
Ultrasound doppler
In this test sound waves used to monitor the blood flow in arteries and veins, if a blood clot is present in blood vessels then Radiologists will see the interrupted blood flow.
D-dimer test
It is a blood test that performed to measure the presence of a substance that’s released when a blood clot breaks apart. a large number of blood clot pieces indicate a high risk of DVT.
Venogram
In this test, a dye is injected into the vein and then X-ray of the vein is taken to see if there is a clot in a vein.
Prevenation
Avoid sitting for a long time
Maintain a healthy body weight
Wear loose fitted clothes
Exercise regularly
Drink lots of water
Take small breaks during the long journey
