The full form of LG is Lieutenant Governor also called vice-governor. LG is a high officer of a union territory in India. Lieutenant Governor is appointed only for union territory. As of 2020, India has 8 union territories. In India, LG is an IAS officer or a retired judge of a court appointed by the president for five years. LG has similar powers and functions in the union territory that a governor has in the state and a president has at the union level.
