The full form of TOEFL is the Test of English as a Foreign Language. TOEFL is a standardized test to assess the English language ability of non-English speakers who plan to enrol in English-speaking universities like Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, the United States, and across Europe and Asia. TOEFL is one of the two main English-language tests in the world, the other is IELTS. This test is accepted by most of the English universities and professional organization of English speaking countries. It was started in 1964 by the Modern Language Association financed by grants from the Ford Foundation and Danforth Foundation. In 1965 The College Board and ETS jointly combinedly take responsibility for the continuation of the TOEFL testing program
TOEFL is a trademark of the Educational Testing Service (ETS), a private non-profit organization, which design and conduct exam. ETS provides official score reports that are sent to organizations separately and is valid for two years after the test. The total Score of the candidate is posted online 10 days after the test.
Types of TOEFL exam
The TOEFL is conducted in two modes:
TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test)- It is the most preferred mode of exam and represents more than 98% of test given across the world.
TOEFL paper-delivered test- This test is only conducted in locations that do not have internet facilities.
Eligibility criteria for TOEFL
1.Candidate must be successfully passed the class 12th exam from a recognized board to appear in TOEFL exam
2.This exam is suitable for candidates who wish to study their higher education in English speaking countries.
Examination pattern
The TOEFL exam pattern divided into four sections:
Reading-Total no.of quesation-30 to 40
Total time-54-72 minutes
Writting- Total no.of quesation- 2
Total time- 50 minutes
Lisiting-3–4 lectures , 6 quesation each
2-3 conversation, 5 quesation
Total time-41–57 minutes
Speaking skill- Total no.of queastion-4
Total time-17 minutes
