  1. The full form of CPCB is Central Pollution Control Board. It is a statutory body under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. It was established on 22 September 1974 under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and headquartered in New Delhi.
    It has 7 zonal offices(Bengaluru, Kolkata, Shillong, Bhopal, Lucknow, Vadodara, Agra) and 5 laboratories. Shri Ravi Shanker Prasad is the current chairman of CPCB.

    CPCB gives technical services to the Ministry of Environment and Forests under environment act 1986. It Co-ordinates all the activities of the State Pollution Control Boards by providing technical support and instruction.

    Objective


    To promote cleanliness of streams and wells in distinct elements of the States through prevention, control, and abatement of water pollution and to enhance the exceptional air on the way to prevent, manipulate and reduce air pollution in the country.

    Functions of CPCB


    1. Advise the central government about the control and prevention of water and air quality.

    2. Coordinates the activities and resolve the dispute of state board.

    3. Organize programs in the urban area on the prevention, control, or abatement of water and air pollution.

    4. Collect, compile, and publish technical and statistical data on water and air pollution.

    5. Prepare guidelines and treatment plans for disposal of municipal solid waste.
