What is the full form of FSSAI?

The full form of FSSAI is the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. It is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. FSSAI is responsible for making standards for food to protect and promote human health by the regulation and supervision of food safety.
FSSAI is founded in August 2011 under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. It is headquartered in New Delhi, India. Rita Teotia is the current Chairperson for FSSAI and G. S.G. Ayyangar is the current Chief Executive Officer of FSSAI.
It has 6 regional offices located in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Cochin, and Guwahati. FSSAI has 14 referral laboratories, 72 local laboratories and 112 NABL accredited private laboratories notified by FSSAI.
FSSAI regularly conduct the chemical test on food products of different food product manufacturing companies to know the quality of food products, they have the authority to cancel the license of the company if they found that the company is not maintaining the food safety standards.

Functions of FSSAI
1. Formulate policies to execute standards for food safety.
2. Issuing guidelines and processes for accreditation laboratories.
3. To provide scientific advice and technical support to the Central Government and State Government for food safety.
4. Promote public awareness about food safety and standards.
5. Conduct training sessions for people who are in the food business.
6. Develop an information network across the country to give reliable information about food safety and issue related to it.
7. Helps in the development of international technical standards for food, sanitary, and phytosanitary standards.
