In parallel feeders shown in the figure, it can be seen that as far as the relays near the source are concerned, the direction of current is same as the normal direction of the current, whereas the direction of the current in the relay load end of the faulty feeders is reversed. Hence, the relays to be co-ordinate properly, the relays near the source are non-directional and the relays near the load are directional in their characteristics.
