In the Gupta inscription, Samudragupta has been called 'Lichchhavi Dauhitra'. There is also evidence of relationship between the early Guptas and the Lichchhavis. Chandragupta I married the Lichchhavi princess Kumaradevi, for which reason their son Samudragupta has been called Lichchhavi - duhitra. It is further indicated by some gold coins which, on the obverse, bear their figures and names and, on the reverse, the name of the Lichchhavis.
