Direction: Each of the questions below consists of a question and two statements numbered I and II given below it. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements are sufficient to answer the question. Read both the statements and Read both the statements and give answer

  1. The difference between the two digits of a number is 6. What is the number?
    I. The digit at the units place is bigger than the other digit.
II. The sum of the two digits is 12.
    1. If the data in statement I alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone are not sufficient to answer the question.
    2. If the data in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone are not sufficient to answer the question
    3. If the data either in statement I alone or in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question.
    4. If the data even in both statements I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question.
    5. Combining statement I and statement II
Correct Option: E

Let, the digits be p and q. We are given p − q = 6 (Assume p > q)
From statement I : p occupies units place
From statement II : p + q = 12
With the help of information in the question part and in statement II, we can find the value of p and q easily because there are two equations to know about two unknowns. But to determine the number we need the help of statement I.
