Direction: Each of the questions below consists of a question and three statements numbered I, II and III given below it. You have to study the questions and decide the data in which of the statements are sufficient to answer the questions.

  1. What is the cost of flooring a rectangular hall?
    I. The length and the breadth of the hall are in the ratio of 3 : 2.
II. The length of the hall is 48 m and the cost of flooring is $850 per m2.
III. The perimeter of the hall is 160 m and the cost of flooring is $850 per m2.
    1. Only I and II
    2. Only I and III
    3. Only III
    4. Only I and either II or III
    5. Any two of the three.
Correct Option: E

I.The ratio of length and the breadth of the hall = 3 : 2
II. The length of the hall ( L ) = 48 m and the cost of flooring = $ 850 m2.
III. The perimeter of the hall ( P ) = 160 m and the cost of flooring = $850 m2
With the help of I and II statements, the value of length and breadth can be calculated.
Let length and the breadth of the hall be 3x and 2x.

( Given ) length L = 3x = 48 m ⇒ x = 48 = 16 m
3

And breadth 2x = 2 × 16 = 32
∴ Area of rectangular hall = length x breadth = 48 x 32 = 1536 m2 .
And, combing this with the cost per m2 we get the total cost of flooring the rectangular hall.
