Direction: Each of the questions below consists of a question and three statements numbered I, II and III given below it. You have to study the questions and decide the data in which of the statements are sufficient to answer the questions.
-
In how many days can a work be completed by A and B together?
I. A alone can complete the work in 8 days.
II. If A alone works for 5 days and B alone works for 6 days, the work gets completed.
III. B alone can complete the work in 16 days.
-
- Any two of the three
- II and either I or II
- I and II only
- II and III only
- None of these
Correct Option: A
As per given above statements , we have
I. A alone can complete the work = 8 days
Part of work done by A = | 1 | 8 |
II. A alone works = 5 days and B alone works = 6 days
III. B alone can complete the work = 16 days
Part of work done by B = | 1 | 16 |
With the help of statements I and II, part of work done by A in 5 days = | 5 | 8 |
Remaining work = 1 - | 5 | = | 3 | 8 | 8 |
Therefore, B alone can do the work in 6 x | 8 | = 16 days | 3 |
∴ A + B = | 8 x 16 | = | 16 | days |
24 | 3 |
Similarly, by combining any two of the three, the required number of days can be determined.
