A capacitor is a two-terminal electrical device that is separated by an insulator (air or any other material). These terminals store electric energy when they connected to a power source like a battery. One of the terminals stores positive charge and the other terminal stores a negative charge. Thus, the energy stored in a capacitor is at the surface of the plates of the capacitor.
